December 6, 2008 Waccasassa-

Wow! What a challenging and fast paced couple of months it has been for our family! I have hardly had time to sit down to write. Please let me update everyone on how things have been going. Overall, things have been going [cough, cough, cough] pretty well.

October is a distant memory right now, but I do remember preaching in Job through some particularly challenging times for our folks. Sickness, pain and cares of this world are common to all of us, no matter what neighborhood we live in. Praise God for a place to come together to lift each other up to the Lord in prayer and receive from Him the consolation from His Word that we all need.

I do remember a sweet reunion at Joppa's Fall Festival. Brother Alpheus Atkins and his family were visiting and he and I and Brother Kelton Johns got to play together on the flatbed trailer one more time! I love singing with those brothers! I was so happy to see some of our Waccasassa folks out too. I want them to know that they have so large a family in Christ!

November was full of challenges. With the time change, our Wednesday nights were getting too dark too fast. So I felt that we should suspend our activites throughout the holidays until after the first of the year or even until the time change in the Spring. We are just not set up for indoor children's events right now.

Next, we started serious planning for our annual Fall Acorn Festival. Coordinating with the local food pantry we had a vision of purchasing 1 ton of food for our food boxes. This would cost 18 cents per pound. We also wanted to give coupons for a free turkey at Hitchcock's. On the day of the event we wanted to serve a Thanksgiving style cookout meal and have a Thanksgiving message.  Well, the Lord provided for everything we wanted to do. Our folks really took the vision and ran with it.

I always have reservations in the back of my mind when we get close to the event: Will anyone come? Is it "gospel" enough?, etc. Suffice it to say, God blessed. The night before we gathered at the house and sorted out all of the food pallets. We stationed one child at each pallet whose job it was to make sure their portion went into the box. We packed about 50 boxes that night.

The next morning, we started around 10AM, setting up tables and PA equipment. The skies were cloudy with a cold front expected around noon. People started showing up from Waccasassa, Bell, Trenton, Williston, Otter Creek, Fanning Springs- many had heard about the even on TV20 News! We were able to pray with them and give them a box and a turkey coupon. Some had to leave early, but most stayed and enjoyed the music, cookout and message (The Spirit and the Bride say, "Come.").

We had a great time. The cold front literally blew in around 11:30am, bringing some sprinkes, but everyone hung around. Even when it began to drizzle as everything was finishing up, people were pulling up. We served them and they stayed under the gazebos eating and talking. What a blessing! Thanks to God and to all who helped out soooooo much!

NEW TEACHING POSITION FOR ROBB- A few months ago, I interviewed at Chiefland Middle School for a teaching position. Although I did not get that position, the principle called me to personally inform me of what he thought about my interview. He said that he would definitely recommend me for anything that came up- and he did! I received a call from the principal at Hilltop Alternative School, the central campus for Levy county's alternative ed students. At his invitation, I set up a time to view the program, which turned into an interview, which turned into getting an offer, which I accepted! Now I teach Social Studies and Science to Middle and High Schoolers. Praise the Lord!

Thanksgiving Holidays- Transitioning to a new and very engaging full time position, creating lesson plans, grading papers, fighting colds in our family and helping brothers move to OHIO while trying to catch a turkey meal with our family. 'Nuf said?

Coming up December- rest?

Love, Robb
