September 7,2008 Waccasassa- Warm weather heated up quickly as we were setting up the welcome table. The first to arrive, we cranked up the new electric start gas generator with ease. We were glad to see everyone as they were coming in. Some, who had been out due to illness, were back and recuperated.

Then the electricity failed. We had to switch generators. It took three men to get things up and running again as we all took turns pulling the old rope starter.  After prayer, we were back online. It is amazing how God has a way of focusing us on Him.

The Harley Family rumbled up on their two-wheelers. We could hear them coming from SR 26 (haha). Several songs were on my heart as we got underway. The message being from Peter’s sermon in Acts 2, I wanted us to remember that “He Is Exalted” and “He Is LORD” and “…the grave could not hold the King” (Arise My Love). With this hope, life is worth the living and, because He lives, we can face tomorrow!

During the message, my daughter had an allergic reaction to something while the kids were outdoors at Children’s Church. We had prayer for her and kept a close watch as we finished the service and disbanded hurriedly to get her home.

9/14/08 Waccasassa- Sunday morning was a sunny and fair morning with a gentle breeze. I arrived with half my family as the other half was being tended for a sinus cold. My family is my core group, my team in this outreach for our Lord. But the ones I brought helped out so much. Hannah helped set up the welcome table, while Carter and Ben unloaded my essential ministry tools: beef jerky, maps, paper bags, stax of trax and boom box for Christian Hip Hop- just kidding.

They really do help me a lot though. They really do unload my guitar, bag, food and 3-5 gal water keg and whatever else we need. Wesley helped me get the gas generator out the door and ready to fire up since the propane generator is having trouble again.

I decided to wait to crank the rope starter. I love the quiet of a Sunday morning out here. We got everything set up and had a little “praise band” practice with Hannah (drum set). She is doing so well on her own. I don’t know where she picks up her chops.

The boys waited patiently while we practiced our songs for morning worship- songs that illustrated Acts 3 and the lame man at Beautiful gate. Then Jeff arrived and went to crank the generator for us. The rope start handle broke! Now we were just like the lame man- no power!

As we sat in the morning shade with the windows up, other guests began to arrive. I was glad to see them. The absence of electricity did not seem to bother anyone. Too bad my awesome PowerPoint songs/announcements could not be admired! It’s not about me?

The Lord was merciful in granting us a comparatively cool morning and I endeavored to keep the message at 20 minutes with illustrations. By the way, did you know that an African Impala cannot take a leap of faith? He can jump 10 feet up and 30 feet across, but can be contained within a fence 3 feet high. Why? It is because he will not jump if he can’t see where his feet will land! The lame man took the first leap of faith. He had never even jumped before!

9/21/08- Wednesday night- damp, passing rain, the days are getting shorter, starting at 7PM is a blessing with my new schedule. Unloading the gas generator… Started first try after last week’s tune up (no charge!).

Outdoor lighting really helped.

Hamburgers were a hit! Theme: This Little Light of Mine, taught the kids Jesus is the light of the world. When God brought Him into this dark world, He did not hide Him under a bushel or under the
bed. This thing was not done in a corner! All the kings marveled when God created a new shining (greek, phenonmenon) star to hail the arrival of His son. If Jesus is in us, we too, are the light of the world and we shine as lights (greek, phenomenons!) in a dark world. We used a hurricane lamp to illustrate. The oil, the unburning wick, the light all helped to illustrate as we sang “This Little Light of Mine” and “Shine Jesus Shine”.

Sunday- Hazy and cool, arrived early so Hannah could rehearse the morning’s worship
songs on her drums. She is doing so well! Great to see a brother from the neighborhood bring his neighbor to church. We know it is the Lord who brings all of us! Without Him, we can do nothing!

The Message: Turning to God- Acts 3.11ff

Several upcoming ministry opportunities/ prayer requests:

October- Boys Poe Springs Campout, Friday-Saturday October 16-17

Vision: To demonstrate our Christian joy to our young men in settings outside the chapel. We have reserved the group camping facility at Poe Springs Park in Alachua County. The boys will camp, play, swim and fish as well take a ranger guided midnight nature walk! Pray that we can connect God’s Word with all that we see and do.

November- Acorn Festival, Saturday November 15

Vision: Host a Neighborhood Thanksgiving style cookout (smoked turkey!), with special theme message: Come To The Table, followed by the distribution of food boxes/ grocery cards and, of course, T SHIRTS! Pray that God would open His storehouse to Waccasassa for the glory of His Son!

9/28/08- Another beautiful morning! We had a full house today! It was great to see the families from the neighborhood and abroad, eager to see one another, spending time talking and sharing before service. We got started around 11 by sharing a letter I had received from a young man who used to attend. He was from the neighborhood but has since moved away to another town. The letter contained scripture verses and book marks with bible verses- just enough to give out to the 5 families represented in attendance.

After singing “HE LIVES” we continued the message from Acts 4: Jesus the Cornerstone. In the middle of the Word, the generator ran out of gas, but we continued to preach- just like old times! We opened the doors and windows and continued. Thankfully, the weather was great for open air preaching!

We closed with some hymns from the hymnal and some prayer time for the people we know.

We are also very excited about setting up a bible table at Pa Pa’s this Saturday (10/4) from 8AM-11.

Plans for the November 15th Acorn Festival continue. We are hoping to pack PLENTY of food baskets on that day before the neighborhood Thanksgiving style cookout at NOON. All churches are welcomed to bring a covered dish and join us!
